ABOUT ME

I created The Early Modernist out of a fascination with how the years between 1500 and 1800 shaped our modern world in ways both obvious and subtle. My journey with early modern history began during my university studies, but my love of history predates my academic journey by several years. It was at university that I discovered that this period contained all the contradictions that make history so compelling, moments of extraordinary innovation alongside persistent traditions, enlightened thinking emerging alongside entrenched superstitions. What started as academic interest evolved into a passion for sharing these stories beyond classroom walls.

A particular focus of The Early Modernist will be the lives, contributions, and experiences of women during this pivotal era. Their stories, whether of queens and aristocrats, artists and writers, healers and merchants, or ordinary women navigating rapidly changing societies, have too often been relegated to the margins of historical narratives. I'm passionate about bringing these women to the forefront, examining how they shaped and were shaped by the transformative events of their time. Whether you're a fellow historian, a student, or simply someone curious about our shared past, I hope you'll join me in exploring the early modern world in all its messy, magnificent glory, with special attention to those whose voices deserve to be heard more clearly across the centuries.
